We caught up with Sharlet on Twitter and she agreed to do an exclusive Q&A interview. We are truly honored to present it to our readers and to preserve it for posterity on our decentralized site Web3ArtBlog.NFT

Question: IRL (In real life) you are a mother, business manager, dog owner etc. When do you get time to make 500 pixeleted Nft art by hand and then painstakingly minting them on Polygon?

Answer: That’s true, but it works quite well. I have a fairly regular daily routine and am therefore finished with work, sports, food and the like at around 6 p.m. That means about 3-4 hours of NFT time per day. That’s a lot of hours a month, so I always have enough time for all my crazy ideas.

Question: Your collection titled We Are Women NFT is a trully unique and pixeleted art form. What inspired you to use pixels and to make 500 women your subjects?

Answer: You can read the entire background story of “We are women”. The short version is that I have been self-employed since my youth and have always had to struggle through my professional life. It wasn’t always easy and that’s why I admire strong women who achieve their goals. When I entered the NFT business in October 2021, the “World of Women” collection inspired me to create the “We are women” collection a few months later. I wanted to show how diverse and strong we women are.

Question: You write on OpenSea that the future owners of We Are Women NFTs can include people who want a virtual girlfriend. Do you see your art evolving in the future as real AI girlfriends that one can chat with?

Answer: No of course not. 😉 I added the “virtual girlfriend” as a little fun. So that was more of a saying, not a real idea of an AI friendly. Images remain, no matter how much one may like them, they are still just works of art and images.

Soccer Fan Girls Collection will be released soon.

Question: Your collection is multi racial and multi ethnic and each one has her own unique individual traits. Could you please describe the process of pixelating the traits of each of the 500 women? It must sury have been a deep dive into the creative rabbit hole.

Answer: Actually, it wasn’t that difficult, because we women don’t follow a uniform pattern. So I just use whatever skin color, hair color, eye color and other characteristics I can find. I don’t go by a strict list. However, I make sure that the number of skin types and hair colors used is relatively balanced. But I do all of this based on feeling, including the selection of which hair could go with which woman and which clothes. It’s all gut feeling. But yes, it is very important to me to show the many different ethnic groups and personalities in the world.

We are Women #326

Question: Do you think there are enough women in NFTs and Web3?

Answer: There is never enough, no matter how many we are.  I hope that in the future more and more women will venture into the NFT world and get involved in technology.

Question: How do you see the NFT space evolving in say ten years from now or in the long term future?

Answer: Hard to say. I hope and think that NFTs will of course still be around in ten years’ time. But the market will certainly change. Employment contracts or real properties are already being auctioned off or sold through NFTs, it is already not just art, but has a wide range of possible uses. Still, what I love most is the digital art aspect, as it’s like a whole new world that connects the many small artists from around the world with their myriad styles and ideas. I hope that will be the case in ten years’ time. However, I also hope that there will be further developments in blockchain technology, so that large blockchains such as Ethereum and future alternatives will become affordable for a larger target group.

Madonna Vagina NFT Art

Question: Madonna minted her vagina in her collection Mother of Nature. She had a lot of criticism from the press. What are your thoughts on this?

Answer: Basically, I believe that every person should do what they want to do as long as it doesn’t harm anyone. As far as I know, the videos are not publicly viewable, but only with age restrictions. I think everyone has to decide for themselves what to watch and what not. Whether that’s great or not, I don’t judge at all, because it was her idea and her implementation and if she thinks it’s nice, then it made sense. You don’t have to like everything that’s published on the Internet, whether it’s by stars or no-names. So I don’t have a specific opinion about Madonna’s video in particular, I think it’s okay if she does it as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone – why not? This is also art in a way and, as is well known, not everyone has to like it.

Nerd Punks by Sharlet

Question: I Also love your collection Nerd Punks. What inspired that collection?

Answer: The Nerd Punks were among my first small pixel works. I am a little nerd myself and work with computers every day, play games and therefore I think that the topic of nerds was a great fit for me straight away.

Question: Would you describe your self as a pixeleted artist and can you talk more about your experience with that art form and how you see it evolving?

Answer: It’s hard to say what kind of artist I would call myself. I don’t see myself as an artist at all, because it’s just my free time and not my professional job. So I do everything according to my gut feeling and the way I find it beautiful myself. I think that’s the point of art too, you have to like it first and foremost. I really love the pixel art, it’s so straight and structured, I like that.

Nasty Dogs Club by Sharlet

Question: You are a dog owner. Did that inspire your collection Nasty Dog Club?

Answer: Yes, that’s right, my dog Dexter sort of tipped the scales as to which animal will grace the first drawn collection. But it could have been any other animal, so it didn’t HAVE to be a dog, but when I think about my favorite animals, the dog is at least very, very, very high up there. 😉

Question: The Nasty Dog Club collection is more 2d cartoon characters unlike your pixeleted collections. What inspired this departure?

Answer: My husband gave me the idea. He is primarily a draftsman and that is why we developed the Nasty Dog idea together. In general, however, I do not believe that the collection is a departure. I love doing both, so I don’t have a fixed style.

Cranky Chameleon Club by Sharlet

Question: Your Cranky Chameleon Club collection is funny and hilarious. I grew up in Africa with lots of chameleons. I was always fascinated by how they changed colors. Would you say artistically that you too are a bit of a chameleon?

Answer: Chameleons are such incredibly cute animals. I’ve always loved these animals, so they just fitted perfectly with the idea of the new collection. Regarding your question whether I also see myself artistically as a chameleon. Perhaps. 😉 I do believe that I am quite diverse and can adapt well. Definitely not as good as a Chameleon, but I’m still practicing.

Sharlet on foundation app

Question: On foundation you dive a bit into monochrome photography. Tell us more about that please?

Answer: My Monochrome series is something completely different again, but that’s what I mean. I believe that pixel art, drawn art and also photography can basically be related. Anyone who loves art in general draws and designs, but often also likes to take photos. And so it is with me. When I travel with my family, my husband and I always have our cameras with us and that creates a lot of memories. This collection in particular was photographed in America and Scotland.
